HAEPAARY
해파리 HAEPAARY (pronounced as ‘he̞pʰa̠ɾi’) is an alt-electronic duo consisting of HYEWON (sound producer, instruments) and MINHEE (executive producer, vocal) from Seoul, South Korea. They have reinterpreted the melodies and lyrics of Jongmyojeryeak, the royal shrine music of the Joseon dynasty, and Namchang Gagok, a Korean traditional vocal genre that has always been performed exclusively by men. 해파리 HAEPAARY's tracks demonstrate Hyewon and Minhee's brilliant disentanglement of formality and disciplines of Confucian music with their re-articulation of rave and trance. 해파리 HAEPAARY's soundscape of refinement will invite intimate strangers to its secluded party.
HAEPAARY(해파리)는 민희(보컬, 이그제큐티브 프로듀서)와 혜원(사운드 프로듀서, 인스트루먼트)로 이루어진 얼트 일렉트로닉(alt-electronic) 듀오다. 민희는 공연창작자 및 싱어로, 혜원은 현대무용 등 다양한 공연 작품의 음악감독으로 활동하였다. 두 사람 모두 유년기부터 한국 전통음악 연주자로서 다져진 시간을 덧대어 음악적 이중언어자만이 만들어낼 수 있는 색깔을 보여준다. 엄격한 형식과 규율로 점철된 유교 음악에 레이브와 트랜스의 청각적 어법을 결합한 해파리의 트랙들은 정제된 가무악에 숨겨져 있던 팝의 면모를 끌어내며 시류를 상실한 리스너의 소심한 클럽파티를 연상케 한다.
